Cannes double: Tender Son – The Frankenstein Project and Rebecca H. (Return to the Dogs)

Cannes (Official Selection and Un Certain Regard) - A pair of movies from the two primary competitions at Cannes, both featuring filmmaker characters played by their directors, both being unconventional takes on outside source material, and both focusing on emotionally disturbed central characters. Cannes 2010: Post-awards press conferences

IndieMovies was at the Palais in Cannes for the last time this year, to catch the jury and prize-winners' press conferences after the awards had been announced. It all wrapped up about two hours ago and here's our report on the post-awards chatter.

Cannes 2010 results are in!

We have just got back from the Palais, where the main awards of the 2010 Cannes Film Festival were dished out tonight. An Indie Movies fave from this year's line-up, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives won the Palme d'Or for its Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and there were wins too for acting stars Javier Bardem and Juliette Binoche.

I tend to spend my days at the Cannes Film Festival sheltering in the stronghold of the Palais, relatively safe amongst my fellow hacks, a good percentage of whom are every bit as pale and socially dysfunctional as myself. Yet sometimes the lure of the sun, the undertow of curiosity, and the tug of showbiz glamour is too intoxicating a cocktail to resist, and I head outside to join the crowds.
