What's the deal then?
We believe that the future of entertainment is free, streamed content, and as William Gibson said, the future is here – it's just not evenly distributed. Well, we're trying to get around the distribution issue by offering films for our users to watch, on demand, absolutely free.
How can you show the movies for free? Is there a catch?
The adverts on the site and adverts shown before each movie pay the cost of the screening, so you don't have to! There’s no catch, there are no obligations, no subscriptions or hidden charges of any kind.
Is the site legal?
Yes, 100%.
I have a technical problem. Where do I go?
Our 'Tech Support!' page is probably the best bet. You can go there by clicking here.
Does it work in my country?
Currently, we can only screen films for users in the USA, the UK, Canada and Australia. We will be adding new countries as soon as we can, so please check back to find out when movies become available in your country.
We always try to secure worldwide rights but sometimes it’s not possible – the same movie may have different rights holders in each country. If you try to access a film that isn’t cleared to be shown in your country, you’ll be told it's not available on the synopsis page.
Posting here in the forums will also let us know which countries we should prioritise.
What restrictions are there?
We only ask that you abide by our terms of use and that your posts are sane, spam-free and friendly.
What is your privacy policy?
You can read it in full here.

I've forgotten my password. What do I do?
If you've forgotten your password, click here, enter your username or email address and we’ll e-mail you a new password. If you've forgotten both your username and email address, then send a mail to contact@indiemoviesonline.com and we may be able to help.
How do I edit my profile page?
On the profile page there are three sections you can edit: your account information (from a link at the top of the page); your movie info (from a link at the bottom right of that section); and your 'this-or-that' choices (also via a link at the bottom right of that section). Each link will take you to a new page where you can make and save your changes.
How do I get to the movies?
Click on the 'all movies' button at the top of the site and you will see a list of genres displayed next to the featured movie. Click on the genre and you will be shown a list of all relevant films, along with our recommendation.
Alternatively, you can just browse the collection. If you're not sure what kind of movie you want to watch, we've made some recommendations in our featured movie box on the front page of the site. Simply click on the film title and you’ll be taken to its synopsis page.
Why don't you have [insert movie name here]?
IndieMoviesOnline only screens independent movies, so you won't find Ironman, 300 or similar big studio releases. Likewise, anything that is currently showing at the cinema is unlikely to be on Indie.
So, how do I watch the movie once I've found it?
Once you've found the movie you're looking for, you should be at the synopsis page. To watch the movie, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the 'Start the movie' button. This will take you to the page where your selected film will be shown following some short advertisements.
When the movie starts, there are standard navigation controls available on the player. You can start or stop, pause, skip back or forward, adjust the volume and expand the movie to play full-screen on your monitor. Our films stream direct to the player on your computer rather than downloading to your hard-drive, so you can jump to any point in the movie without having to wait for it to download.
Can I improve the picture quality?
The movie will be shown in a quality appropriate to your internet connection. For the best quality playback we recommend closing any other applications that share your internet connection. You can check your broadband speed here.
Can I watch the movie through my TV?
Yes – you’ll need to refer to the product information that came with your TV and PC to find out what settings, equipment and cables you may need. We also have this thread on the forum to help answer your specific questions.
What's the black bar at the bottom of the site for?
The floating footer bar on Indie allows you to keep in contact with your friends on the site. Clicking on 'friends' will display a list of all of your friends on the site (from here you can visit their profiles). Clicking on 'inbox' will take you to your mailbox, where you can send or receive message from other users. Clicking 'help' brings you to this help page and clicking 'log-out' will sign you out of the site when you are finished using it.
How do I join discussions?
When you are signed into the site, after each forum post or article you should see a link or button that says 'add a new comment' or 'reply'. Clicking this will take you to a text editor where you can input your message. When you're done, click the 'post comment' button and your message will be added. We would advise reading the rules first though.
So what else can I do on the site?
The site is full of people who love watching movies, love talking about movies and love reading about movies. To get the most out of the site we recommend posting on the forum, getting to know people and adding them to your friends list. As the site develops, we’ll be adding extra features to make finding and interacting with Indie friends even more fun – so keep an eye out!
