In the wake of FrightFest last weekend IndieMovies has posted a more light-hearted (or at least less gruesome) selection of free movies this week. In case you missed them we had The Gold Diggers, Lathe of Heaven, Lap and Cherry Crush.
Tuesday brought new availability for The Gold Diggers which was previously viewable in America, Canada and Australia and can also now be seen by those in the UK. The Gold Diggers is directed by Sally Potter, who is best known for her adaptation of Virginia Woolf's Orlando. Made with an all-female crew, Potter's film is an innovative, original take on feminism, politics and cinema itself, with Julie Christie and Colette Lafont at the head of the cast. The Gold Diggers was the recipient of substantial criticism on its release and prompted Potter to 'do a Stanley' (as in Kubrick, and meaning in this case to yank her own film from release, a la A Clockwork Orange). But it has since been reappraised, and we are delighted to be presenting it on IndieMoviesOnline.
On Wednesday we published Lathe of Heaven which sees a man discover that his dreams have the power to alter reality – with terrifying consequences. Lathe of Heaven is an adaptation of Ursula LeGuin's classic sci-fi novella, starring James Caan and Lukas Haas and is available to those in the UK.

Lap was Thursday’s short film, which followed lap dancer Lula when she meets the near blind Alan at a bus stop. The film focuses on the pair’s unlikely friendship as the viewer is shown glimpses of Lula's working life. Lap is also only available in the UK.
And today we bring you the drama/thriller Cherry Crush starring Twilight’s Rosalie, Nikki Reed. Jordan Wells is from a rich and privileged family. But his photographic skill and his penchant for taking anonymous, provocative photos of girls in his class gets him kicked out of prep school and lands him in the local public high school where he meets Shay Bettencourt, a beautiful cello player from the other side of the tracks. As the pair become closer Jordan finds out the shocking truth behind Shay’s true motives and finds himself an accessory to murder. Cherry Crush is available to viewers in the US.
