Free movies for you on a Friday

Fugitive Pieces.

We have reached the end of the working week (well, aside from you folks with Saturday jobs. Which, thanks to the global recession, is a rapidly-decreasing number). And that means it is new free films day on Indie Movies Online. Which is a good thing. We have four new titles today, including acclaimed drama Fugitive Pieces, starring Stephen Dillane and Rosamund Pike.

Based on the Orange Prize-winning novel of the same title by Anne Michaels, Fugitive Pieces centres on 7 year-old Jakob, who survives the massacre of his family by the Nazis, but remains haunted by the memory of this tragedy as he grows to adulthood.

Fugitive Pieces.

We also have the documentary Dear Oprah, which tackles the issue of low voter turn-out. Dedicated to Oprah Winfrey, and featuring footage of Barack Obama on the campaign trail during the 2008 US Presidential contest, Kasper Verkaik's film is the record of a nation poised on the brink of political change.

Dear Oprah.

Last up this week, we have a brace of Brazilian soccer movies – Boleiros and Boleiros 2. The first film centres on a group of ex-soccer aces gathering in their favourite bar to share outlandish tales from their respective times in the game. Its sequel is a more expansive affair, as the bar is visited by a current football superstar and a media circus ensues – much to the chagrin of the old pros, who this time include real-life World Cup legend Sócrates amongst their number.

Boleiros 2.

Dear Oprah, Boleiros and Boleiros 2 are all available to watch in the US, the UK, Canada and Australia. Due to tedious legal guff, Fugitive Pieces is UK only.
