Got a movie? Off to Cannes? Then we want to hear from you!

Paul Martin
Cannes Film Festival.

About six weeks till the 2011 Cannes Film Festival gets under way, and as we were last year, IndieMoviesOnline will once again be down on the Cote d'Azur, catching as many films as we can get our backsides in front of. In addition to all that reviewing, this year we also want to hear from you if you're an independent movie-maker taking your independent movie to Cannes 2011.

Ooh, the trepidation of launching something when you're not really sure what the take-up is going to be. The fear of getting zero responses, and having to quietly mothball the item, hoping that no-one, six months down the line, suddenly goes “Hey, what the heck happened to that plan to speak to indie directors when you were in Cannes? Huh? Huh? What about that?”, as the red shroud of embarrassment attacks with all the rapid spread of a monkey-carried plague in a Wolfgang Petersen movie.

Hush, banish such doubts. Face front, smile and... go! Hello! Yes! Around a month-and-a-half until this year's Cannes Film Festival is go, go, go, and the expectation is that the 2011 edition will see debuts for new movies from such directorial luminaries as Almodovar, von Trier, Terence Malick and the Dardennes (for more on what might feature check out parts one and two of our Cannes teaser).

But Cannes is not merely restricted to the artistic competitions which this year are being presided over by Robert De Niro (Official Selection) and Emir Kusturica (Un Certain Regard). It is also, certainly in its opening phase, the place for film biz deal-making and buzz-building. Whether a project is being launched or already in the can and in need of distribution, everyone is looking to publicise their movie, with the below truck-vert for Stricken, starring Carice van Houten, being entirely typical of what you see down on the Croisette.

Stricken in Cannes.

So if you are taking your film to Cannes this year then we are very keen on speaking to you. The intent is that we will speak to you ahead of the fest, and preview both your movie and what you hope to get from going to the festival, before then hooking up in Cannes and finding out how it is all going, and if your expectations are being met.

If that sounds like something you might be interested in, send an email to Paul@indiemoviesonline.com with CANNES as the subject, and maybe a little line or two about your film and what stage it is currently at. Look forward to hearing from you!
