Despicable Me, Salt, Sherlock Holmes and An Education. There is a trailer to suit everybody today. You can check them all out after the jump.
Despicable Me is an upcoming Universal and Illumination Entertainment animated 3D film about super villains. Steve Carell voices Gru, the super villain who plans to steal the moon until his plans are jeopardised by a rival super villain, as well as three orphaned girls who are determined to make him their dad. The supporting cast includes Will Arnett, Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig, Russell Brand, Jemaine Clement and Julie Andrews. Likeable but not loveable? We’ll have to wait and see.
Angelina Jolie’s newest thriller, Salt, sees her playing a CIA officer accused by an arrested agent of being a Russian sleeper spy out to kill the president. She has no choice but to go on the run and gather evidence to clear her name and save herself and her husband from elimination. Although the role was initially intended for Tom Cruise (who would have been Edwin Salt), the script was rewritten for Jolie (playing Evelyn). Salt is due for release July 2010. The teaser trailer, which features Jolie biffing cops and throwing herself off bridges, is here:
Another trailer for Sherlock Holmes has been released. This one seems to capture the darker elements of the film. It features quite a lot of the same clips as the last one, but there is added footage that reveals more of the film’s plot. We’re still not sure about Robert Downey Jr’s accent and Jude Law in general – and even less certain about a reporter for the World Entertainment News Network who predicted that Sherlock Holmes could nab the best picture Oscar next year – but it could provide some good ol’fashioned Christmassy fun.
Lone Scherfig’s much praised An Education is out in UK cinemas now. Starring new girl on the block Carey Mulligan, alongside Peter Saarsgaard, Alfred Molina and Olivia Williams, it’s a lovely looking coming-of-age flick. This trailer came out over the summer but it’s a timely reminder of what you could be watching this weekend.
