New Percy Jackson character posters

Percy Jackson.

What was the big movie success of last year? Nope, not 3D. It was individual character posters. It often seemed that a movie could not be released unless every character had a poster all to their lonesome. The trend continues into 2010 too, with Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief unleashing six new banners.

Just to pause for a mini-PJATOTLT recap: based on the books by Rick Riordan, this is Fox's attempt at launching their own Harry Potter of a franchise, with Philosopher's  Stone and Chamber of Secrets director Chris Columbus taking the helm of this tale of a teenage boy getting embroiled with the deities of Greek mythology. The movie riffs on the legend of Perseus, which is why it is due for release on the not-at-all-blockbustery date of 12 February, as Fox are determined to beat the even-more legend of Perseus-themed Clash of the Titans into theatres. All clear? Good. Now bring on the pics, courtesy of Empire.

Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson & the Olympians, the Lightning Thief.

First up is Daughter of Athena (that's Annabeth Chase, played by Alexandra Daddario).

Percy Jackson in Percy Jackson & the Olympians, the Lighnting Thief.

Son of Poseidon (Percy Jackson himself, played by Logan Lerman).

Medusa from Percy Jackson & the Olympians, the Lightning Thief.

Fatal Beauty (the snake-haired Medusa, played by Uma Thurman).

Grover Underwood in Percy Jackson & the Olympians, the Lightning Thief.

The Protector (Grover Underwood, played by Brandon T. Jackson).

Chiron the Centaur from Percy Jackson & the Olympians, the Lightning Thief.

Guide Warrior (or do they mean Warrior Guide? Chiron the centaur, played by Pierce Brosnan).

The Exterminator from Percy Jackson & the Olympians, the Lightning Thief.

And lastly, the Exterminator (er, not one-hundred percent sure who this is. Steve Coogan's Hades perhaps?)

Reckon you're right: must be Steve Coogan's Hades. Not sure why they've styled him like he's in Korn, though. Also, Hades wasn't the embodiment of evil - like our much more modern devil. He was a god, like the Olympians. It was just that he was given the underworld to rule. In ancient Greek mythology, all souls went to Hades and he was their king.

Of course, to even be pointing this in respect of a blockbustery kids' film is patently idiotic. I might as well note that you can't really hold some lightning.

Sigh.

I'll get my coat.

Ah, but this isn't just any lightning, this is Zeus' Master Bolt! And in the book Hades is bitter about having to rule the underworld, so he's angry n evil...

But I agree, (through process of elimination) that has to be Steve Coogan.
