Supernatural Tuesday

Angela Burton
... Of The Dead

Zombies, witches and vampires, it must be Tuesday. Supernatural Tuesday that is. We have a bundle of exciting things from Survival of the Dead, new concept The Witch Hunter, and a first look at Priest and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls.

Four clips have been released for George A Romero’s Survival of the Dead. After the unimpressive trailer we’re glad to see some silly zombie action that retains its old school look but has higher production values than we had previously been led to expect.

The Survival of the Dead goodies don’t end there. A Zombie Identification Field Manual has been released. When dealing with zombies this handy guide, filled with hints and tips, might just keep you alive. You can check it out here, thanks to Bloody Disgusting

Summit Entertainment has seen success with vampires and werewolves, and has decided to move onto witches. They have made a six-figure deal to acquire a pitch by Cory Goodman (credits include Priest and The Brood), entitled The Last Witch Hunter. Already attached is Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov, who is interested in making a deal to produce and direct. The story follows one of the last witch hunters (as the title suggests), who keep the populace of witches and warlocks in order. But they are now on the brink of a huge numbers surge, unless the witch hunter can stop them.

The premise sounds a little bit like Nicolas Cage’s upcoming witch hunter flick, Season of the Witch. Perhaps now is the time of the witch?

From zombies to witches, we now move onto the more familiar paranormal being, the vampire. Entertainment Tonight got their hands on the first footage for Sony Screen Gems’ Priest, debuting it alongside on set interviews with Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet and Stephen Moyer. (In other Bettany news, he and Rufus Sewell have been cast in Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie’s The Tourist.)

Bettany is a warrior priest who has turned against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. The film will hit cinemas January 14 in the US.

Our final supernatural gem bring us in a full circle back to zombies. With Pride and Prejudice and Zombies making its way onto the big screen and the recent news that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, might also get the same treatment, it seems only natural that we get a prequel to the former. Although currently it’s still only a novel, we’re not going to be surprised when we hear it too will get adapted.

Set four years before Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls shows how Elizabeth Bennet became an undead slayer. You can check out the book trailer below and buy the book from March 23.

Paul Bettany's gonna feel silly when he sees the Priest clip and realises someone doodled a big cross on his fizzog while he was asleep.
