The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time

If you cast your minds back to the end of that gloomy month known as January, you’ll remember we reported that James Bobin (co-creator of Flight of the Conchords) might take on directorial duties for the next Disney Muppet movie. It seems now that's all official and script details have been revealed.

The script (previously known as The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever) written by Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller and now dubbed The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time, is being kept reasonably well guarded. But the basic plot synopsis reveals that Gary, his girlfriend Mary and his life-long, nondescript brown puppet best friend Walter get the now retired Muppets back together to save the original show's TV studio. Save the studio from what, you ask? From Tex Richman, a villain determined to drill beneath it for oil. But how could they possibly stop him? By putting on an amazing Muppet show that draws ten million viewers, of course!

The Playlist’s source revealed the Muppet script might not be currently up to speed: “We're hoping the songs (the majority of which were missing from the script) help elevate the script from a harmless Muppet flick to a more memorable one, but there's more work to be done first. But what their script lacks (oddly enough, this being a Muppet movie and all) is forward pulse.”

If the script is to be ready for shooting later this year they’ll have to work quickly. But considering that the most successful of the Muppet movies saw the gang taking a step away from showbiz and out into the real world, are they jinxing the film already?

Ooh, I used to love my original Muppet Show cast album back when I were a wee lad. Veterinarian's Hospital. Gonzo attempting to eat a rubber tyre to the sound of the Flight of the Bumblebee. Fozzie Bear and Scooter the gopher doing Simon Smith and his Amazing Dancing Bear. Awesome stuff.
