Hi gang, remember that awesome competition we were running in conjunction with the folks over at Empire, to design a new poster for Carlo Ortu's excellent debut feature, The Killers? Well, the entries have been collated, Carlo has spoken, and a winner and a trio of runners-up have been chosen – all of which can be viewed here.
Written and directed by Carlo Ortu, The Killers (which, lest anyone forget, is available to view for free by all users of Indie Movies Online based in the UK, US, Canada and Australia) is a blood-spattered black comedy focusing on the misadventures of two maladroit hitmen. Back in September, the call went out from Empire, asking you talented types out there to come up with a fresh one sheet for Carlo's film, and boy, did you rise admirably to this challenge.
Entries were of a splendiferous standard, and a couple of weeks back Carlo came into the office to face the onerous task of choosing a winner from the raft received. The poster which triumphed was this one, by Matthew Miles...

...with Carlo lavishing these words of praise upon it: “The mixture of tinted pictures on a white background made it really stand out... overall, I felt this captured what The Killers is all about the most and is a very accomplished, professional design.”
There are three runners-up too, from John Sparks, of which Carlo said, “A well thought out design with a great tagline”...

...and Justin James Horton, praised by Carlo thusly: “This poster captured the low budget independent spirit of the film wonderfully”...

...and that talented chap Matthew Miles, again. “A really striking, lo-fi poster” said Carlo, this time.

Well done guys, well done. And extra special congratulations to big winner, Matthew (more of whose sterling design work can be seen on his own website).
