Tintin trailer and posters

Just like waiting for a bus we’ve had nothing on director Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, and now, this very day we have two posters and a trailer. Get ready to check it all out after the jump.

Based on three of Tintin creator Herge’s books, the film will be a 3D motion capture quest that follows Tintin, the fearless reporter, getting involved in the search for sunken treasure that belonged to a seventeenth century pirate named Red Rackham. By his side as always is his little dog Snowy, the drunken Captain Haddock and detectives Thompson and Thomson.

We’ll start with the posters. The UK one-sheet found its way online first. It depicts our hero and his trusty white dog engulfed in shadows walking (quite literally) around the globe. Behind them is a promise of adventure in the form of a smoking plane and a ship (the Unicorn, of course), sails aflame. Oh, and don’t forget the line of camels. Although the poster doesn’t say it, the film is due in UK cinemas fom October 26.

Moving on to the US poster; it’s quite similar in terms of the shadowy centre but this time we get a better look at the ship, despite it being in darkness. Tintin and Snowy are walking away from the moored Unicorn, no doubt on a trail of something or someone. As it states at the bottom of this poster, the US opening date will be December 23.

Okay, onto the trailer. We begin in a room filled with junk, our hero’s face still in darkness but with that hair do there’s no mistaking him. We watch as Tintin uncovers a model ship of the Unicorn (which we can see in the posters), and now we're all wondering what secrets it holds. Now the scene is set there’s a glimpse of the bowler-hatted detectives with spy holes torn into their newspaper - it's all very reminiscent of the Tintin this reporter can remember watching on TV as a child. There’s also fighting, a plane crashing, a chase and that look at Tintin’s face you’ve all been waiting for. Unfortunately it’s not as good as the background animation, the eyes look a little dead. But this is only a quick glimpse. More footage may show off the characters in a better light. Hopefully.

Adapted for the screen by Steven Moffat (Doctor Who), Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) and Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs the World), produced by Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg and directd by Spielberg, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn will star Jamie Bell as Tintin; Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock; Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as Thompson and Thomson; and Daniel Craig as Red Rackham.
