Titans Clash their way on screen

The remake of the 1981 Clash of the Titans has a trailer – and what an exciting spectacle it is. New and improved CG monsters have replaced the plasticine stop-motion monsters of yore and there’s a new crop of actors playing the pantheon of gods.

Although it’s supposed to be a remake, Louis Leterrier’s (Transporter 2, The Incredible Hulk) version expands the scope of the original plot, which told the story of Perseus’ quest to rescue Andromeda and win her hand. Playing even faster and looser with Greek myth than the original flick, there’s a new antagonist among the gods for our hero Perseus (born a God, raised a man) to thwart: Hades, King of the Underworld. The man downstairs is launching a bid for the top spot in Olympus, and Perseus must stop him, presumably saving the (ancient) world, battling Medusa, destroying the Kraken and sweeping Andromeda off her feet along the way.

Sam Worthington is Perseus, Liam Neeson is Zeus, Ralph Fiennes is Hades, Alexa Davalos is Andromeda, Danny Huston is Poseidon and Izabella Miko is Athena.

Are Greek Gods the new vampires? Not only do we have Clash of the Titans in the pipeline, but Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief includes versions of many of the same myths.
