Twilight Saga: Eclipse poster

What a Thursday today is turning out to be. Twilight Saga: Eclipse has a full trailer, Robin Hood has a trailer, The Runaways has a featurette, clips and a music video, Dear John has a trailer, Bounty Hunter has clips, posters for Kick-Ass and Four Lions as well as pictures and a poster for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

It’s here! After the excitement of the ten-second teaser yesterday, the full trailer for Twilight Saga: Eclipse is out. As a fan of the book and after some initial issues with David Slade, this reporter is pleasantly surprised with what the director has produced so far. The trailer captures glimpses of nearly all the elements the movie will cover (minus the big spoilery ending) giving a good feel of what the third instalment might be like.

Throughout Eclipse, Bella puts off choosing between vampires and werewolves whilst trying to avoid Victoria who is determined to kill her and convince Edward to turn her into a vampire to appease the Volturi, who also want to kill her.

All of the Twilight’s previous cast have returned for Eclipse (except Rachelle Lefevre who played Victoria in the first two movies, and is replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard) – which is due to be in cinemas June 30 in the US and July 9 in the UK.

Ridley Scott’s upcoming Robin Hood movie has a trailer out now too. Set in late twelfth-century England, Sir Robin of Loxley, Earl of Huntingdon (aka Robin Hood), has returned home after fighting in the Third Crusade to find the new Sheriff of Nottingham oppressing the people. Using his intelligence and military skills, Sir Robin frees his village and takes back what is rightfully theirs. At the same time, he also attempts to win the affections of the recently widowed Lady Marian.

The script began as a heroic tale about the Sheriff of Nottingham (to be played by Crowe) entitled Nottingham but Scott’s unhappiness with this take on the tale led to the filming being delayed and the script rewritten with a more traditional view and title of Robin Hood. The trailer has the same gritty look as Clash of the Titans; we’re just waiting for the news that this will also be delayed two weeks to be 3Dified. Sigh.

Robin Hood stars Russell Crowe, Mark Strong, Cate Blanchett, Kevin Durand, Max von Sydow, Matthew Macfadyen, Danny Huston and William Hurt. It hits cinemas May 14.

The Runaways has a goodie bag filled with bits and promotional pieces with seven clips, a featurette and a music video starring the biopic cast. Based on the book, Neon Angel: The Cherie Currie Story by Cherie Currie, The Runaways follows the band and how it came into fruition in the mid 1970s.

Kristen Stewart is Joan Jett, Dakota Fanning is Cherie Currie and Michael Shannon is Kim Fowley. Written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, The Runaways opens with a limited US release March 19, with its full release on April 9. No UK release date has yet been set.

The next trailer we have on offer today is for the American romantic drama/war film, adapted from Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name, Dear John (spoilers follow). Whilst on leave John Tyree, a young soldier, falls in love with Savannah Lynn Curtis, a college student on spring break. When he has to return to the army the pair begin a long distance relationship, communicating through letters. Over time they begin to drift apart, leading to Savannah writing him a “Dear John letter” (a letter written to a husband or boyfriend in the forces, telling them their relationship is over usually because they have found someone new). After being shot, John is told to go home and spend time with his father but still upset over the break up, he re-enlists. After being informed his father has had a stroke John rushes to his side, spending his last days in the hospital. Before returning to the Army John decides to visit Savannah. He finds she is married but her husband, Tim, is hospitalised with cancer. Selling his father’s prized coin collection John anonymously donates the money to finance Tim’s operation. After an unexpected letter from Savannah guessing John’s involvement and thanking him for his kindness, John is inspired to leave the Army.

Released in the US February 5, Dear John knocked Avatar off the number one spot at the box office after seven weeks, bringing $30,468,614 in its opening weekend. Directed by Lasse Hallström and starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, Dear John is released May 7 in the UK.

Following in the rather familiar footsteps of action-comedy films with a romantic twist (rather than generic rom-coms) like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Mr and Mrs Smith, Tina Fey and Steve Carell’s Date Night and Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl’s Killers, clips have surfaced for Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler’s The Bounty Hunter.

Milo Boyd is a down-on-his-luck bounty hunter assigned to track down his bail-jumping ex-wife Nicole Hurly, a reporter investigating a murder cover-up. Milo believes this will be an easy job until Nicole gives him the slip to follow a lead on her case. Cue the the duo bickering childishly until they find themselves on a “run-for-their-lives adventure”.

Directed by Andy Tennant (Hitch) The Bounty Hunter is released March 19 in the US and April 16 in the UK.

Who hasn’t ripped off the “your country needs you” army recruiting poster? The most recent offender is Kick-Ass, featuring the familiar pointing finger – that is oddly unattached and floating in front of what seems to be a bust of Kick-Ass – only this time asking you to kick ass and become a superhero, not enlist.

Kick-Ass is premiering at the South by Southwest Film Festival March 12, then opens April 2 in the UK and April 16 in the US.

A poster for Four Lions has also been released. It’s the debut feature film from director Chris Morris. The film is a satire based on a group of four would-be suicide bombers – Islamic Jihadi terrorists from the north of England – it was a favourite a Sundance.

The film stars Riz Ahmed, Nigel Lindsay, Adeel Ahktar, Kayvan Novak and Arsher Ali. No release date has yet been set.

The final poster and lots of new images for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time have made their way online – there’s even a good look at the very dagger that reverses time for the wielder (gasp). The images don’t really reveal anything new, they just grind in the knowledge that this film is going to be a full-on action adventure. Look: there’s lots of fighting, running and jumping.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is direct by Mike Newell and stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton. You can catch it in cinemas from May 28.

And always sat behind you is that dude who crunches his popcorn as LOUDLY as possible, and somehow manages to make it last for the entire duration of the film.
