The Burning is Stephen Frears’ first film, a chilling exploration of racial tensions in Apartheid-era South Africa. On a sweltering summer’ day, a wealthy white matriarch insists on taking her household on a planned trip to the country, in spite of their urgent warnings that an uprising is underway.

Peep Show was a Canadian, Twilight Zone-style anthology programme. This episode - in which a couple take shelter in a remote country house inhabited by two dotty old women - was directed by David Cronenberg and reveals an early preoccupation with horror and transformation.

Pete (David Tennant) is ready to break up with Juliet, his girlfriend of three years. When she gets home, she mistakes his words and actions for a proposal and before he can correct her mistake, their house is full of family, friends and champagne.
