Made for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Programme X series, director David Cronenberg has referred to Secret Weapons as his 'suppressed' film. Secret Weapons writer and star Norman Snider met Cronenberg while both where students at the University of Toronto, and he would later contribute to the screenplay of the director's Jeremy Irons-starrer Dead Ringers.
